FC Seoul released its new adidas jerseys for 2010 season this week. FC Seoul players will wear these new kits in the upcoming K-league season. However, because of their 5th place finish in the 2009 K-League, FC Seoul did not qualify for the 2010 AFC Champions League.

The adidas shirt designs in use here are new to most. Expect to see more of it as more teams using adidas gear launch their 2010 kits.

Review: Puma v1.10 Soccer Boots

[digg=http://digg.com/soccer/Review_Puma_v1_10_Soccer_Boots]Over the past week we’ve been testing the Puma v1.10 Firm Ground soccer boot. English Premier League fans may have seen this flashy boot being worn by Chelsea FC’s Nicolas Anelka in his goal scoring exploits for the Blues this season.

Here’s a brief description of the boot from Puma:

PUMA's v1.10 football boot incorporates the most advanced technology available to date. The second generation of the Uni-construction provides a better touch of the ball by having an updated, softer toe area. Further, the laces are covered in order to provide a clean kicking area, and the lightweight upper materials combine textiles with a soft, highly-abrasion resistant, lightweight micro-fiber that translates into a significantly better ball touch. At the same time, the carbon fiber plate in the outsole reduces the stud pressure and increases reactivity, while keeping the weight of the product down.

The Test

Our soccer league is in its winter off-season right now so our test consisted of the following:

One break-in session in which we ran some dribbling and shooting drills and practiced skills moves

One pickup game

One club scrimmage session

Note: The fields that we’re playing on these days are not in the best of conditions because of recent wet, wintery weather.

Aesthetics

We tested the Blazing Yellow/Black/Chili Pepper Puma v1.10 pictured above. While the v1.10 comes in several colorways from red to black, this is the v1.10’s brightest colorway and definitely catches the eye. It was definitely a hit when the boot made the rounds at Football Fashion and when we showed up on the pitch with it. One female Football Fashion contributor who’s somewhat of a celebrity at local L.A. Fitness’ where she teaches spin and dance classes immediately wanted to know if Puma makes trainers that she can wear to the gym in this colorway.

Regardless of the colors used, the Puma v1.10 looks great. From the smooth front with an underlying textured finish to the webbed Puma logo on the outside to the large Puma cat on the inner foot area, the v1.10 is a soccer work of art. The design team responsible for the boot did an excellent job in making the v1.10 soccer eye candy. As you might expect, it pained us to take them out onto our muddy fields.

The Fit

Upon first trying on the Puma v1.10, the first thing that struck us was its light weight. At only 8.2 oz, the v1.10 rivals performance running shoes. Given that most normal soccer shoes weigh anywhere from 10 – 13 oz., the light weight of the v1.10 can possibly make a difference in the fatigue encountered by a typical soccer player running anywhere from 5 to 10 km over a 90 minute game.

The fit of the Puma v1.10 was glove-like, true to size and extremely comfortable. Coupled with its great stability, at times you forget that you’re wearing cleated shoe. This is definitely welcome given that cleated shoes can be extremely uncomfortable at times. Within 45 minutes of knocking a ball around with the v1.10, we felt that they were ready for match action.

In-Game Performance

Puma stresses the v1.10’s light weight as one of its statement features. It is a speedster’s shoe that best serves players in attacking roles such as wingers, wingbacks and strikers. Thus we wore the v1.10s whilst playing in a right-sided attacking midfielder position for our test period to fully appreciate its main attributes.

After taking about 10 minutes to get used to using the news shoes in a game situation, we felt quite at ease in them. We felt as if light weight of the shoe made it easier to move on and off the ball. Whether psychological or because of the fit of the shoe, skills moves seemed to require a little less effort. Our break-in session with the boots probably aided with this.

Touch

In terms of touch, the Puma v1.10 performed splendidly. You may wonder how easy it will be to trap a fast-moving ball and kill its momentum with an ultralight shoe that may not have the padding of heavier shoes. No worries with the v1.10. We suspect that this may be because of what appears to be padding in the instep and the unique somewhat flattened forefoot area of the boot. The latter also works excellently for chipped shots, long crosses and lofted passes. It’s almost as if the wedge created between the foot and ball when executing these moves is improved.

Shooting

As with any new soccer boot it does take a bit of practice to get the feel of shooting in the v1.10s. However, providing you’ve got some skill in the art, once you get used to these them, the Puma v1.10’s covered lace area, light weight and smooth forefoot can combine for deadly shooting. The ball-hugging feel provided when executing volleys and half-volleys is absolutely superb. The end result are shots that were often more accurate when compared to those made with a standard boot.

Stability

We regard stability to one of the most important features of any soccer shoe. The Puma v1.10 did not let us down in this area. Before even trying on the boot, we suspected that it was designed with stability in mind from the sturdy heel support that appears on the back of the shoe and the fact that it is a contiguous unit with the plate of the shoe.

From our break-in session to the games we played in the Puma v1.10, we loved the stability that the boot offered (even on winter storm-beaten fields). We felt well-balanced and ready to receive the ball when moving off of it and very comfortable when dribbling with, holding up, trapping and passing the ball in these shoes. The extra stability provided by the v1.10 worked particularly well when doing drag backs and Cruyff Turns in tight situations.

When Not to Wear

We do not recommend that rough and tumble central defenders and defensive midfielders use the v1.10. Again, it is a light weight speed boot. As such, it is not built for dishing out or receiving the abuse usually associated with these positions. One ill-timed tackle or step on the foot in light weight boots like the v1.10 could result in injury or even a broken metatarsal. If you play in central defense or as a defensive midfielder, please stick to a sturdy padded boot like the venerable Puma King.

Durability

We’ve logged about four hours of practice and game time in the Puma v1.10 thus far. While they no longer have the brand new, out of the box look because of the abuse and wet and muddy fields that we’ve subjected them to, the v1.10s have held up quite well. We see no unusual wrinkling, shape distortion or ripping in them. They also do not retain water because of the synthetic materials used for their construction. By all accounts, the Puma v1.10 is well-constructed and should stand the test of time. We can’t wait to give them a run when it’s warm and dry on lush green fields!

Conclusion

The Puma v1.10 is a quality professional grade soccer boot. We recommend it for skilled offensive players. Its light weight is something to behold and will impress the fleet-footed. At the same time, the V1.10’s remarkable fit, touch and stability are features to be enjoyed by intermediate to advanced players with a good knowledge of the game of soccer.

According to the Victory's website "Leading Australian parking operator Care Park will grace the front of the new navy and white shirts, which both feature Melbourne Victory's distinctive V and will be used exclusively in Asia's premier club competition."

Melbourne is grouped with Beijing Guoan, Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma and Kawasaki Frontale for the group stage of this year's AFC Champions League.

England Rugby Nike 2010 Twickenham Centenary Kit / Jersey

England will revert to its ultra-modern Nike 2010 home and change kits for the rest of their Six Nations fixtures.

Well neither had we until earlier this week when they presented their Centenary Kappa 2010 kit collection with the help of several local soccer babes (hence their appearance on Football Fashion).

The club was founded in 1910 with the name Club Union de Excursionistas. Its name was changed to Club Atletico excursionistas in 1920. "Excursionistas" translates roughly to "Voyagers" in English and is akin to the name "Wanderers" used by clubs such as Bolton of the English Premier League.

Atlético Excursionistas currently campaigns in the third tier of the Argentine football pyramid - La Primera C Metropolitana.

Keane's latest move follows him joining Liverpool from Spurs in the summer of 2008 only to transfer back to Spurs in January 2009. However, given the London's club abundance of in-form strikers, Keane had found it hard to crack Tottenham's starting XI in recent times.

Celtic says that Keane will make is club debut on February 10th when the Hoops host Hearts.

Before joining Manchester City, Robinho played for Spain's Real Madrid from 2005-2008.

Ghana will meet defending champions Egypt in the final of the tournament on Sunday.

ESPN English Premier League & Spanish La Liga U.S. February 2010 Broadcast Schedules

The inspiration for the predominantly black jersey is the December, 12th 1898 7-0 German victory in Paris against the "White Selection Rovers Club" (featuring nine British players) 7:0. During the match, the very first German national side wore black.

The 2010 Germany adidas away kit also features eleven gold stripes symbolizing team spirit and a golden lettering with "Deutscher Fußball-Bund" ("German Football Association" in English) on its back neckline.

The new German shirt's badge features three golden stars above it in recognition of Germany's 1954, 1974 and 1990 FIFA World Cup triumphs.

The Germany adidas 2010 away kit is expected to see its first action when Die Mannschaft meet Argentina in a pre-World Cup friendly on March 3rd. It is expected to be used in Germany's FIFA World Cup 2010 group game against Ghana on June 23 because the Germans are the "guest team" for the match. Ghana's primary strip is white.

The high energy track was released yesterday via simultaneous video premiers on Latin television show “Primer Impacto” and MTV network Mun2 in the United States. It will appear on Daddy Yankee's upcoming album "Daddy Yankee Mundial."

The video for "Grito Mundial" was filmed in Argentina and Brazil. It features a sequence filmed at Boca Juniors legendary La Bombonera stadium during half-time the club's meeting with Chacarita in Novemebr 2009. Additional Argentine footage was filmed in the Buenos Aires neighborhoods of Lugano and Finochietto.

Brazil-based footage for "Grito Mundial" was filmed in Río de Janeiro favela Tavares Bastos.

For those of you looking to catch all of the action from the tournament, CONCACAF (the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) has announced that it will stream all 16 games live and for free on their website - CONCACAF.com.

According to CONCACAF: "Users will have to sign-up to view the games, but there is no charge for the one-time registration...The games also will be viewable on-demand shortly after their conclusion."

The top three teams in the tournament will qualify for the Under-20 Women's World Cup to be held in Germany in July 2010.

All first round games featuring the United States, semi-finals and final will also be shown live on Fox Soccer Channel in the United States.

The league is contested between 20 clubs and typically lasts from January to April.

The 2010 edition of the Campeonato Paulista started this weekend with much fanfare including live band performances and soccer babes representing each of the league's clubs strutting their stuff. Here are a couple of pictures from the festivities.

On Friday night, Santos and their kit supplier Umbro presented the team's 2010 home and away kits. The Santos Umbro 2010 jerseys will feature the logo of environmental conservation non-profit organization World Wildlife Fund (WWF) on their fronts.

Yokohama F. Marinos Nike 2010 Home and Away Kits

Yokohama F. Marinos (横浜F・マリノス) is a Japanese football team which participates in the fully professional Japan Professional Football League; the top professional football (soccer) league in Japan.

Having won the J-League title three times and finished second twice, the team is one of the most successful J-League clubs. The team is based in Yokohama and was founded as the company team of Nissan Motors. The club was formed by the merger of Yokohama Marinos and Yokohama Flügels in 1999. The current name is intended to reflect both Marinos and Flügels. The team name Marinos means 'sailors' in Spanish. With the relegation of JEF United Ichihara Chiba to J2, Marinos becomes the club longest currently in the top flight, having been at this level since 1982.

Yesterday, Yokohama F. Marinos unveiled their Nike 2010/11 home and away kits. They feature a modified version fo the Nike V is for Victory design made famous by the Manchester United Nike 2009/10 home jersey.

The loss leaves Real on 41 points from 18 matches. FC Barcelona leads the league table with 46 points from 18 games.

The Uruguay away, Switzerland away and Austria home Puma 2010/11 jerseys all appear to use the same design as that of the leaked Italy World Cup 2010 kit.

According to the FIFA Store, all of the new 2010 Puma jerseys feature:

The new limited edition Boca jersey pays homage to the Swedish national flag. Legend has it that when trying to decide the colors of their newly formed team, the club's founders (a group of Italian immigrants) saw a Swedish ship docked in Buenos Aires. They liked the blue and yellow of the Swedish flag that adorned the vessel and adopted it as Boca Junior's colors.

Each Boca Juniors Nike 105th Anniversary shirt will feature embroidery featuring the shirt's unique number and the text Bostero desde 1905.

The Boca Juniors Nike 105th Anniversary kit will be worn for the first time during January 20th's Súper Clásico with archrival River Plate.

Chunnam Dragons Jako 2010/11 Home and Away Kits

Yesterday, Chunnam Dragons presented their Jako home, away and goalkeeper kits for the 2010/11 season. These are the first Jako jersey designs that we've seen for the 2010/11 season.

Suwon Bluewings adidas 2010/11 Home and Away Kits

Suwon were the 2008 K-League champions, having triumphed in the championship playoff final at the end of the 2008 K-League season. They won the championship on three previous occasions - 1998, 1999 and 2004.

Earlier today, Suwon Bluewings launched their 2010/11 adidas home and away kit. Here's a look at some detailed pictures of the new kits. They feature an adidas design that we're seeing for the first time today.

SS Lazio Puma 2009/10 110th Anniversary Third Kit / Maglia

Back in June 2009 Italian Serie A club S.S. Lazio released their 2009/10 Puma home and away kits. Now the club's Puma 09/10 third jersey has hit the streets.

Interestingly, even though the new kit was available for purchase from Subside Sports before Lazio has not made an official announcement regarding it.

The Lazio Puma 09/10 third kit recognizes the club's 110th year anniversary via embroidery reading 1900-2010 under the badge. The shirt design appears very similar to the Italy Confederations Cup 2009 kit. Evidently, the same Puma template was used for both shirts.

FC Barcelona were unable to recover from last week's 1-2 loss to Sevilla at the Camp Nou in spite of their 1-0 away win. Sevilla advanced with the score 2-2 on aggregate on the away goals rule.

Valencia tied Deportivo La Coruna 2-2 away but lost the two-legged tie 3-4 on aggregate courtesy of Deportivo's 2-1 win at the Mestalla last week.

As is common for South American kit launches, several soccer babes were also present to show of Colo Colo's 2010 collection.

adidas has released track jackets for several of the teams that it will provide equipment to for FIFA World Cup 2010. Jackets for world football powers Argentina France, Germany, Mexico and Spain have now hit the brick and mortar and online shops.

They all feature:

- Elastic waists
- Left sleeve pockets for secure storage
- Collars with drawstring for a custom fit.
- Embroidered soccer federation crests and brand logos

We got a France adidas track jacket from the SoccerPro.com World Cup 2010 section. After great communication from SoccerPro regarding the status of our delivery, the jacket showed up after only three days. One of these is definitely a must have in these frigid days of winter if you want to play or train outside and look good while doing so.

Mali staged a remarkable comeback in the last 11 minutes of Sunday's Africa Cup of Nations 2010 opener to tie host Angola 4-4.

Saudi Arabia-based striker Flavio opened the scoring for Angola with a 36th-minute diving header before adding a second in the 42nd.

Gilberto's and Manucho's second half penalties for Angola agave the hosts what appeared to be an unassailable lead before substitute Seydou Keita started Mali’s comeback in the 79th minute. Frederic Kanoute then made it 4-2, Keita's second of the night andMustapha Yatabare in stoppage time.

Arsenal substitute Tomas Rosicky salvaged a point for the Guuners with his stoppage time equalizer.

A depleted FC Barcelona suffered a rare home loss to Sevilla by a score of 1-2 at the Camp Nou while Valencia fell to Deportivo La Coruna by the same scoreline at the fabled Estadio Mestalla.

The return legs of the Copa del Rey Round of 16 will be played on January 12th, 2010.

These include the World Cup qualified teams Ghana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Algeria who are headed to the Africa Cup of Nations’ with hosts Angola and the national teams of Egypt, Mozambique, Togo and Tunisia, as well as non-qualified federations of Senegal, Morocco and Namibia."

ESPN to Broadcast up to 25 FIFA World Cup 2010 Matches in 3D

Well there's a chance that you can catch them on new network ESPN 3D in all three dimensions of the physical world. As announced on ESPN SportsCenter today and a press release from ESPN:

ESPN 3D will showcase a minimum of 85 live sporting events during its first year, beginning June 11 with the first 2010 FIFA World Cup match, featuring South Africa versus Mexico, ESPN and ABC Sports president George Bodenheimer announced.

Other events to be produced in 3-D include the 2011 BCS National Championship Game, college basketball and football contests, up to 25 World Cup matches and the Summer X Games. Additional events will be announced at a later date.

Apparently 3D television sets and special 3D glasses will be required to view ESPN 3D's broadcasts.

The 2010 Philadelphia Union adidas away jersey has the following features.

* Gold is the dominant color
* The club crest is centered on the front on a wide panel of Union midnight blue
* Above the right breast, the adidas logo, maker of all official Philadelphia Union gear
* On the right sleeve, there is an MLS patch
* On the left sleeve, there is an American flag
* Accent piping, the light blue color of the flag of Philadelphia, can be found as the tip of each sleeve
* The inside collar features the text "We Are One."
